According to the Centers for Disease Control, hearing loss can occur with repeated exposure to noises at or above 85 decibels. Is my hair dryer louder than that? Should I buy a quieter one? Are there hair dryers out there that are significantly quieter than others? Are the expensive hair dryers that claim to be "insanely quiet" or "whisper soft" worth it?
I couldn't find the answers to these questions anywhere on the internet. So I decided to figure it out myself. My plan: download a decibel measuring app to my phone, test my own fairly new hair dryer, and then beg, borrow or buy some others to test. I'll post the results here. Stay tuned!
